FORECAST 15-DEC-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

MONDAY, 15-DEC-08, 7:00

IN LAST FRIDAYS FORECAST I CALLED FOR THE BEST CHANCE OF SNOW ON THE OWENS VALLEY FLOOR TO BE MONDAY AND WE GOT IT. AS OF THIS MORNING 4 INCHES IN THE ALABAMA HILLS, AND 2 INCHES FROM LONE PINE TO BISHOP. ADDITIONALLY MAMMOTH HAS PICKED UP 12 INCHES SO FAR. A VERY COLD, BROAD UPPER TROUGH HAS NOW SETTLED IN OVER THE WESTERN STATES AND WILL BRING WITH IT COLD SHOWERY WEATHER WITH SNOW IN THE HIGH COUNTRY THROUGH THE MID PART OF THE WEEK. SNOW LEVELS, AT TIMES, WILL LOWER TO THE VALLEY FLOORS. I AM STILL PREDICTING 15 - 30 INCHES OF NEW SNOW IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY, WITH THE DISTINCT POSSIBILITY OF 3 TO 4 FEET ABOVE 10,000 FEET. A WINTER STORM WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE SIERRA THROUGH THIS EVENING. A DRYING PERIOD WITH CONTINUED COLD TEMPERATURES NOW LOOKS POSSIBLE TOWARD THE END OF THE WEEK.
