FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

CONTINUED MILD WEATHER FOR MOST OF THE DAY TODAY AS VERY STRONG, ALASKAN COLD FRONT PREPARES TO DROP SOUTHWARD AND INTO OUR AREA THIS EVENING INTO SATURDAY. THIS FRONT WILL BRING AHEAD OF IT, VERY STRONG WINDS, PARTICULARLY IN MONO COUNTY AND OVER THE CREST. THUS A HIGH WIND WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR LATE TODAY INTO SATURDAY. SIERRA CREST WINDS COULD REACH 150 MPH LATE THIS EVENING AND WIND PRONE AREAS OF MONO COUNTY COULD REACH GUSTS OF 80 MPH. BEST CHANCE OF SNOW WILL BE LATE FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING, HOWEVER THE FIRST WAVE WILL BE FAIRLY MOISTURE STARVED, SO I EXPECT ONLY 2- 4 INCHES ABOVE 9,000 FEET. BY SUNDAY NIGHT ANOTHER WAVE MOVES THROUGH WITH A BETTER SHOT AT SNOW. RIGHT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE FROM THE PERIOD SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT WE COULD SEE ANOTHER 15 - 30 INCHES OF NEW SNOW AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. LIGHTER SNOW WILL FALL AS THE SNOW LEVEL DROPS AND SNOW SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE ON THE VALLEY FLOORS AT ANY TIME WITHIN THIS FORECAST PERIOD WITH THE BEST CHANCE ON MONDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY. THESE IMPULSES WILL BRING WITH THEM VERY COLD AIR AND OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES OF 15 DEGREES ARE POSSIBLE FOR THE OWENS VALLEY BY MONDAY NIGHT AND 0 DEGREES FOR MAMMOTH.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGHS AROUND 62. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 8 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE MID 20S. NORTHWEST WIND 12 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 22.
SATURDAY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH DAYTIME HIGHS AROUND 46. SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN AND SNOW FLURRIES. NORTHWEST WIND 15 -20 MPH GUSTING TO 35.
SATURDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 21. 30% CHANCE OF LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 23.

SATURDAY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH DAYTIME HIGHS RISING TO NEAR 26 BY MID DAY THEN DROPPING TO 18 FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. 60% CHANCE OF SNOW. WEST WIND 30 - 35 MPH GUSTING TO 55.

TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SNOW LATE. LOWS FROM 16 TO 26. VERY STRONG WINDS FROM THE WEST @ 15 - 25 MPH INCREASING TO 30 -45 GUSTING TO 75. RIDGE GUSTS TO 150.
