FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

THURSDAY, 11-DEC-08, 7:04

ENJOY THE MILD AND CALM WEATHER TODAY BECAUSE A CHANGE IS A COMING. A VERY COLD ARTIC SYSTEM WILL MOVE SOUTHWARD INTO CALIFORNIA WITH ITS INITIAL PUSH GIVING OUR ENTIRE AREA HIGH WINDS, STARING LATER FRIDAY OVER THE SIERRA, THEN INTO THE REST OF THE FORECAST AREA ON SATURDAY. A HIGH WIND WARNING WILL MOST LIKELY BE ISSUED FOR THAT TIME FRAME. THEN AN EXTENDED PERIOD FOLLOWS OF COLD, SHOWERY WEATHER STARTING LATE FRIDAY NIGHT INTO THE MID PART OF NEXT WEEK. SNOW LEVELS COULD DROP TO THE VALLEY FLOORS IN BOTH MONO AND INYO COUNTIES ANY TIME WITHIN THIS FORECAST PERIOD. THUNDER-SNOW IS POSSIBLE IN THE HIGH COUNTRY THROUGH TUESDAY. BY SUNDAY, HIGHS IN THE UPPER 30S OR LOW 40S ARE PROBABLE IN THE OWENS VALLEY WITH LOWS DOWN TO -4 IN MAMMOTH. COLD TEMPERATURES AND SNOW SHOWERS WILL REMAIN OVER THE FORECAST AREA INTO WEDNESDAY. THIS WEATHER EVENT WILL GIVE JUST ABOUT EVERYONE THEIR FIRST REAL TASTE OF WINTER. MORE ON THE SPECIFICS OF THIS STORM, SUCH A PREDICTED SNOWFALL AMOUNTS, IN LATER BROADCASTS.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGHS AROUND 64. NORTHWEST WIND 6 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE MID 20S. WEST WIND 4 - 7 MPH.
FRIDAY: SUNNY WITH DAYTIME HIGHS AROUND 62. WEST WIND 10 -15 MPH GUSTING TO 25.
FRIDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 30. WEST WIND 15 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: SUNNY SKIES WITH DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 49. CALM WIND.

TONIGHT: CLEAR WITH LOWS FROM 13 TO 23. WEST WIND 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY WITH HIGHS FROM 42 TO 52. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30. RIDGE GUSTS TO 65.
FRIDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY AND VERY WINDY WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS FROM 16 - 26. CHANCE OF SNOW LATE IN THE EVENING. WEST WIND 20 - 30 GUSTING TO 55 THEN INCREASING TO 30 - 40 GUSTING TO 70 LATER IN THE EVENING. RIDGE GUSTS TO 150.
