FORECAST 10-DEC-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

WEDNESDAY, 10-DEC-08, 7:01

A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN TODAY AND THURSDAY WITH TEMPERATURES CLIMBING SOME 3- 5 DEGREES FROM TUESDAY. FRIDAY LOOKS TO BE THE LAST MILD DAY FOR AWHILE AS WE WILL BEGIN TO SEE A DRAMATIC PATTERN CHANGE IN OUR WEATHER. STARTING ON SATURDAY A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL SETTLE OVER THE WESTERN USA WITH SHOWERS BEGINNING ON SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. WE CAN EXPECT BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR SNOW LEVELS TO DROP TO THE VALLEY FLOORS. THE NEXT COLDER WAVE WILL MOVE THROUGH ON MONDAY INTO TUESDAY AND RIGHT NOW THIS SYSTEM LOOKS STRONGER AND WETTER THAN THE WEEKENDS WITH THE ONGOING POSSIBILITY FOR VALLEY SNOW. THERE IS STILL A LITTLE TIME TO ASSESS THE SITUATION, BUT IT DOES LOOK LIKE THE HIGH COUNTRY COULD SEE A REAL GOOD SHOT OF SNOW WITH THIS SECOND SYSTEM.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGHS AROUND 63. CALM WIND.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE MID 20S. NORTHWEST WIND LIGHT.
THURSDAY: SUNNY. DAYTIME HIGHS AROUND 64. NORTHWEST WIND 6 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. EVENING LOWS NEAR 26. WEST WIND 5 MPH.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

THURSDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 22. WEST WIND 5 MPH.

FOR THE REST OF MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: SUNNY WITH HIGHS RANGING FROM 48 - 58. LIGHT VARIABLE WIND.
TONIGHT: CLEAR WITH LOWS FROM 12 TO 22. LIGHT WIND.
THURSDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH HIGHS FROM 43 TO 53. NORTHEAST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: CLEAR WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS FROM 13 - 23. WEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
