FORECAST 25-NOV-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

THE APPROACHING PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM, THAT WE TALKED ABOUT YESTERDAY, IS MOVING VERY SLOWLY NORTHEASTWARD. WE WILL STILL GET OUR RAIN AND SNOW, BUT NOT UNTIL LATER TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY, WITH THE BRUNT OF THE MOISTURE ON WEDNESDAY. I STILL EXPECT SOME 5 - 10 INCHES OF SNOW IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA. SOME LEVELS WILL BE AROUND 7,000 FEET. WE WILL SEE SOME LINGERING MOISTURE ON THURSDAY THEN, AS WE MENTIONED IN YESTERDAY AFTERNOON'S UPDATE, A DRYING TREND WILL BEGIN ON FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND AS AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE BUILDS IN OVER THE AREA.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN AS THE DAY PROGRESSES. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 61. WEST WIND 6 - 9 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH SHOWERS LIKELY. THERE WILL BE A 60% CHANCE OF RAIN. OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE MID 30S. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 - 8 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: RAIN LIKELY WITH A 70% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH DAYTIME HIGHS AROUND 55. WINDS WILL BE LIGHT AND VARIABLE.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: CLOUDY WITH DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 39. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: CLOUDY WITH SNOW LATER IN THE EVENING. CHANCE OF PRECIPT 80%. EVENING LOWS AROUND 28. EAST WIND 5 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: CLOUDY WITH A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW. 70% CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 37. EAST WIND 5 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: CLOUDY WITH A 40% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. EVENING LOWS NEAR 27. NORTH WIND 5 MPH.

FOR THE REST OF MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: CLOUDY WITH HIGHS RANGING FROM 43 - 53. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH.
TONIGHT: SCATTERED SHOWERS IN THE EVENING, THEN RAIN AND SNOW LATE. CHANCE OF PRECIPTATION 70%. LOWS FROM 28 TO 38. SOUTH WIND 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: CLOUDY WITH PERIODS OF RAIN AND SNOW. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION 70%. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 40 - 50. LIGHT WIND.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: CLOUDY WITH A 40% CHANCE OF SHOWERS, DIMINISHING LATER IN THE EVENING. OVERNIGHT LOWS FROM 18 - 28. LIGHT WINDS.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
