FORECAST 24-NOV-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

AFTER TODAY, A WEATHER CHANGE WILL EFFECT US WITH UNSETTLED CONDITIONS THROUGH THE THANKSGIVING WEEKEND. TO START, AN EASTERN PACIFIC SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH OUR AREA ON TUESDAY, WITH THE BULK OF THE MOISTURE DUE IN TUESDAY AFTERNOON INTO WEDNESDAY. WE CAN EXPECT RAIN IN THE VALLEYS AND MOUNTAIN SHOW. A WINTER STORM WATCH LOOKS GOOD AT THIS TIME FOR TUESDAY EVENING INTO WEDNESDAY EVENING, AS 6 - 10 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS. THERE WILL BE LINGERING PRECIPITATION ON THURSDAY, WITH A BRIEF BREAK ON THURSDAY NIGHT. RIGHT NOW, THE NEXT SYSTEM ON FRIDAY IS SOMEWHAT IN QUESTION AS TO TRACK, SO STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES. WHATS NOT QUESTION THOUGH, IS THAT TEMPERATURES WILL TAKE A TUMBLE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN QUITE A WHILE.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: PARTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 64. WEST WIND 9 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. SOUTH WIND 5 - 8 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: CLOUDY WITH RAIN LIKELY. THERE WILL BE A 70% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. EVENING LOWS NEAR 37. SOUTHEAST WIND 6 MPH.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: PARTLY SUNNY WITH DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 46. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH EVENING LOWS AROUND 28. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: CLOUDY WITH A 90% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. EVENING LOWS NEAR 28. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 MPH.

FOR THE REST OF MONO COUNTY:

TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH EVENING LOWS FROM 24 TO 34. SOUTH WIND 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: CLOUDY WITH A 50% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 41 - 51. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: CLOUDY WITH PERIODS OF RAIN AND SNOW. CHANCE OF PRECIPT. IS 70%. OVERNIGHT LOWS FROM 17 - 27. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
