FORECAST 19-NOV-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

WEDNESDAY, 19-NOV-08, 7:08 AM

THE BIG DOME OF HIGH PRESSURE IS STILL IN CONTROL SO WE COULD SEE ANOTHER DAY OF NEAR RECORD TEMPERATURES IN SOME AREAS OF THE OWENS VALLEY. THIS WILL CHANGE STARTING THURSDAY AS A DRY COLD FRONT BASHES INTO AND THROUGH THE PACNW. THIS WILL FLATTEN THAT RIDGE AND BRING TEMPERATURES DOWN FROM THE LOW 70S TODAY AND TOMORROW T0 THE MID 60S OR SO BY FRIDAY. THE WEEKEND INTO AT LEAST MONDAY STILL LOOKS DRY, THEN ON OR ABOUT WEDNESDAY A WEAK SPLITTING SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH CREATING A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE HIGH COUNTY. IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A BIG DEAL AT THIS TIME, BUT THIS COULD OPEN THE DOOR FOR SOMETHING LARGER LATER NEXT WEEK.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 71. SOUTH WIND 6 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE LOW 30S. SOUTH WIND 7 BECOMING NORTHWEST.
THURSDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH A FEW CLOUDS AND HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 70S. WEST WIND 4 - 7 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE LOW 30S. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 8 MPH.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 56. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH EVENING LOWS AROUND 29. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 51. WEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 25.
THURSDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 26. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

FOR THE REST OF MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 53 - 63. LIGHT WIND BECOMING SOUTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH EVENING LOWS FROM 23 TO 33. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 49 - 59. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30 WITH RIDGETOP GUSTS TO 60.
THURSDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS FROM 20 - 30. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30 WITH RIDGETOP GUSTS TO 50.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
