FORECAST 14-NOV-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 14-NOV-08, 7:06 AM

TEMPERATURES IN SOME LOCATIONS OF THE OWENS VALLEY THURSDAY WERE 15 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. TEMPERATURES TODAY WILL AGAIN BE ON THE HIGH SIDE, BUT MAYBE NOT QUITE AS HIGH AS YESTERDAY. ALL OF THIS IS DUE TO AN UNUSUALLY STRONG RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE OFF THE WEST COAST. PRESSURE GRADIENTS WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE US BREEZY CONTIONS TODAY IN WIND PRONE AREAS OF THE VALLEYS AND OVER THE CREST. THOSE WINDS WILL REDUCE THIS EVENING. THINGS LOOK TO CONTINUE ON THE WARM SIDE THROUGH THE WEEKEND, THEN IN THE MID PART OF NEXT WEEK THAT RIDGE STARTS TO BREAK DOWN AS A SERIES OF SHORTWAVES FLATTEN IT. MOUNTAIN TEMPS WILL DROP SLOWLY, BUT THE VALLEYS WILL BE EVEN SLOWER TO COOL THROUGH THURSDAY. WITH ALL OF THIS, WE WILL HAVE MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND SOME MID AND HIGH LEVEL CLOUDS OVERHEAD.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 70S. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING AS HIGH AS 30.

TONIGHT: CLEAR SKIES WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. NORTHWEST WIND 7 - 10 MPH BECOMING CALM.

SATURDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 70S. NORTHWEST WIND 8 - 11 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE MID 30S. NORTHWEST WIND 4 - 7 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES. SUNNY WITH DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 56. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 65 OVER THE CREST.

TONIGHT: GENERALLY CLEAR WITH EVENING LOWS AROUND 33. NORTHEAST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

SATURDAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MAINLY SUNNY WITH DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 63. EAST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 32. CALM WIND.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY WITH HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 52 - 62. NORTH WIND 10 - 20 MPH WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 55.

TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH EVENING LOWS FROM 25 TO 35. NORTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

SATURDAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 53 - 63. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: CLEAR WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS FROM 23 - 33. LIGHT WINDS.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
