FORECAST 12-NOV-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

WEDNESDAY, 12-NOV-08, 7:01 AM

SOME VARIABLE MID AND HIGH LEVEL CLOUDS CONTINUE OVER OUR AREA THIS MORNING. THIS IS ALL COURTESY OF THAT SHORTWAVE PASSING THROUGH THE PACNW WE MENTIONED IN YESTERDAYS FORECAST. THOSE CLOUDS SHOULD START TO MOVE OUT OF HERE AS THE DAY PROGRESS LEAVING US WITH MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND DRY WEATHER BY THIS AFTERNOON / EVENING. NORTH / SOUTH SURFACE PRESSURE GRADIENTS WILL GIVE SOME AREAS BREEZY CONDITIONS FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. ON THURSDAY TEMPERATURES BEGIN TO WARM UP AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN OFF THE WEST COAST AND THIS WARMING TREND WILL CONTINUE INTO MONDAY. AND RIGHT NOW I EXPECT HIGH DAYTIME TEMPS FOR SATURDAY TO BE IN THE LOW TO MID 60S FOR MAMMOTH AND IN THE UPPER 70S FOR THE OWENS VALLEY.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: BECOMING MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE LOWER 70S FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE MID 30S. NORTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH BECOMING 5 - 7 LATER IN THE DAY.

THURSDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE LOW TO MID 70S AND OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE MID 30S. NORTH WIND 10 - 20 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES. PARTLY CLOUDY BECOMING MOSTLY CLEAR. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 51 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 36. NORTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

THURSDAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 56 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 36. NORTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 25.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: A MIX OF CLOUDS AND SUN THEN BECOMING MOSTLY CLEAR. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 50 - 60 AND EVENING LOWS 24 - 34. NORTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30 IN THE AFTERNOON WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 60.

THURSDAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 52 - 62 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 24 - 34. NORTH WIND 10 -15 MPH WITH RIDGE TOPS GUSTS TO 60.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
