FORECAST 07-NOV-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 07-NOV-08, 7:11 AM

AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE CONTINUES OVER OUR AREA GIVING US SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND FAIR SKIES TODAY. A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM THEN MOVES THROUGH LATER SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY, LOWERING THE TEMPS, INCREASING THE WINDS AND CREATING THE CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE VALLEYS AND LIGHT SNOW IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS. THOSE CHANCES OF PRECIPITATION PRETTY MUCH END ON SUNDAY NIGHT, BUT UNSTABLE AIR AND COOL WEATHER WILL STAY WITH US THROUGH WEDNESDAY WITH SCATTERED CLOUDS OVERHEAD AND ANOTHER SLIGHT CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION TUESDAY IN THE HIGH COUNTRY.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: ABUNDANT SUNSHINE. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 70 FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE MID TO UPPER 30S. NORTHWEST WIND 6 - 9 MPH.

SATURDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY SUNNY BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION IS 20%. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 71 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE MID TO UPPER 30S. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 20.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES. SUNNY BLUE SKIES. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 55 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 29. NORTH WIND 5 MPH.

SATURDAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY SUNNY BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF RAIN DURING THE DAY, THEN A CHANCE OF SNOW IN THE EVENING. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION IS 40%. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 51 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 32. BREEZY WITH A SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 35.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: FOGGY CONDITIONS OVER MONO LAKE EARLY AND SUNNY ELSEWHERE. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 52 - 62 AND EVENING LOWS 19 - 29. WINDS LIGHT AND VARIABLE.

SATURDAY FOR MONO COUNTY: WINDY AND PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF RAIN DURING THE DAY AND SNOW SHOWERS IN THE EVENING. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION IS 40%. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 48 - 58 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 21 - 31. SOUTHWEST WIND 15 -25 MPH GUSTING TO 45 WITH RIDGE TOPS GUSTS TO 75.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
