FORECAST 03-NOV-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

MONDAY, 03-NOV-08, 7:05 AM

LAST WEEKENDS STORM BROUGHT 7 INCHES OF NEW SNOW TO MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN. WEAK RIDGING TODAY BEHIND THAT STORM IS NOW SHIFTING EASTWARD. IT WILL BE REPLACED BY A VERY FAST MOVING SHORTWAVE APPROACHING THE WEST COAST THIS MORNING. THAT SHORTWAVE WILL BUCKLE THE RIDGE AND CREATE THE CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE VALLEYS AND UPPER ELEVATION SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS BY MID DAY INTO THE EVENING. AS OF NOW, SNOW LEVELS LOOK TO BE A LITTLE LOWER THAN LAST WEEKENDS STORM. ALSO, THE WINDS WILL INCREASE, PARTICULARLY THE RIDGE TOP GUSTS, WHICH WILL BE AROUND 90 MPH TONIGHT. THIS SYSTEM WILL QUICKLY EXIT THE AREA TUESDAY, REPLACED BY AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. SOME CLOUDS WILL RIDE THE RIDGE FROM TIME TO TIME, KEEPING THINGS SLIGHTLY UNSETTLED THROUGH THAT TIME PERIOD.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY SUNNY BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS THIS EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 65 FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. SOUTH WIND 7 - 11 MPH.

TUESDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY AND A BIT BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 64 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 22.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES. PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF SNOW BY MID DAY BECOMING 90% THIS EVENING. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 42 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 31. SOUTHWEST WIND 15 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

TUESDAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY CLOUDY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 40% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS IN THE MORNING. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 35 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 22. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS BY MID DAY BECOMING A 70% CHANCE OF SNOW IN THE EVENING. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 45 - 55 AND EVENING LOWS 27 - 37. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 35 WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 85.

TUESDAY FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE MORNING THEN BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON. CONTINUED WINDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 37 - 47 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 12 - 22. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30. RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 65.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
