FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER

THURSDAY, 30-OCT-08, 7:07 AM

A DEEPENING EASTERN PACIFIC TROUGH WILL SEND SEVERAL UPPER LEVEL DISTRUBANCES ACROSS OUR AREA STARTING TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY. WE CAN EXPECT A CHANCE OF LIGHT SHOWERS, AND INCREASED WINDS ACROSS THE AREA THURSDAY EVENING INTO FRIDAY. THEN ANOTHER DISTURBANCE WILL ARRIVE SATURDAY BRINGING WITH IT COOLER TEMPERATURES, INCREASED WINDS AND A BETTER CHANCE OF RAIN IN THE VALLEYS AND UPPER ELEVATION SNOW. FINALLY THE PACIFIC TROUGH PASSES THROUGH ON SUNDAY GIVING US THE BEST SHOT AT HIGH COUNTRY SNOW AND VALLEY RAIN. NOW FOR THE MOST PART, SNOW LEVELS WILL REMAIN QUITE HIGH, SAY ABOVE 9,000 FEET THROUGH SATURDAY THEN LOWER TO 7,000 FEET SOMTIME SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY AS THE TROUGH PASS THROUGH. WINDS WILL DEFINITELY BE AN ISSUE THROUGH OUT THE FORECAST PERIOD WITH GUSTS TO 80 + MPH OVER THE CREST AND 50 MPH IN PARTS OF MONO COUNTY. DECREASING WINDS AND SHOWERS ON MONDAY, THEN FAIR WEATHER THROUGH THE MIDDLE PART OF NEXT WEEK.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY CLOUDY BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY AND WINDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS TONIGHT. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 79 FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. LIGHT WIND WILL BECOME SOUTHEAST 15 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 35.

FRIDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLOUDY AND CONTINUED WINDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 72 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. SOUTH WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY CLOUDY AND BREEZY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS DURING THE DAY, INCREASING TO 60% THIS EVENING. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 58 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 34. SOUTH WIND 15 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

FRIDAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 70% CHANCE SCATTERED RAIN IN TOWN AND SNOW SHOWERS IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 48 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 34. SOUTH WIND 15 - 20 GUSTING TO 40 MPH .

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY CLOUDY AND BREEZY WITH A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW LIKELY BY TONIGHT. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 60 - 70 AND EVENING LOWS 28 - 38. SOUTH WIND INCREASING TO 15 - 25 MPH GUSTING TO 40 WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 80.

FRIDAY FOR MONO COUNTY: WINDY AND MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 50% CHANCE OF RAIN AND SNOW. SNOW LEVEL 9,000 FEET. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 51 - 61 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 27 - 37. SOUTH WIND 15 - 25 GUSTING TO 50 MPH DECREASING TO 10 - 15 AFTER MIDNIGHT. RIDGE GUSTS TO 85.
