FORECAST 17-OCT-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 17-OCT-08, 7:08 AM

DRY, WARM CONDITIONS TODAY AS HIGH PRESSURE REMAINS OVER OUR AREA. THEN A CLOSED LOW WEAKENS THAT HIGH ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AS IT MOVES INTO CALIFORNIA REDUCING TEMPERATURES JUST A BIT. THERE IS LIMITED MOISTURE WITH THIS SYSTEM, SO I HAVE GIVEN A SLIGHT CHANCE OF AFTERNOON AND EVENING SHOWERS ON SATURDAY IN THE HIGH COUNTRY, SAY 20%. THAT LOW EJECTS EASTWARD ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON GIVING US ANOTHER WARM FALL DAY ON MONDAY. THINGS LOOK TO REMAIN DRY WITH TEMPERATURES ABOVE NORMAL THROUGH WEDNESDAY AS HIGH PRESSURE SETTLES BACK IN OVER THE AREA.

FRIDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: PLENTIFUL SUNSHINE TODAY AND WARM. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 81 FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. LIGHT WIND BECOMING SOUTHWEST @ 10 - 15 MPH.

SATURDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MAINLY SUNNY AND BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 77 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS AROUND 37. LIGHT WIND BECOMING SOUTH @ 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 20.

FRIDAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 66 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 35. SOUTHWEST WIND @ 5 MPH.

SATURDAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 62 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 36. SOUTH WIND @ 5 - 10 MPH.

FRIDAY FOR MONO COUNTY: GENERALLY CLEAR SKIES. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 63 - 73 AND EVENING LOWS 26 - 36. SOUTH WIND @ 10 MPH.

SATURDAY MONO COUNTY: PARTLY CLOUDY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 59 - 69 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 26 - 36. LIGHT WIND BECOMING WEST @ 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
