FORECAST 15-OCT-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

WEDNESDAY, 15-OCT-08, 7:04 AM

OUR NICE WARMING TREND WILL CONTINUE UNTIL FRIDAY AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS OVER THE SOUTHWEST. LOW TEMPS WILL RUN IN THE MID TO UPPER 30S FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND DEPENDING ON THE INVERSION LAYER, IN THE 20S OR 30S FOR MAMMOTH. A MINOR DISTURBANCE WILL MOVE ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY BRINGING US SOME HIGH CLOUDS AND COOLING THINGS DOWN JUST A BIT. WINDS WILL ALSO INCREASE FROM THE SOUTHWEST WITH THIS SYSTEM. AT THIS TIME IT LOOKS TO REMAIN DRY WITH TEMPS SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE WEEKEND. HOWEVER, THIS SYSTEM DOES NEED TO BE WATCHED WITH MORE UPDATES TO COME LATER IN THE WEEK.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 81 FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 7 MPH.

THURSDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES AGAIN. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 80 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS AROUND 38. SOUTH WIND 7 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY BLUE SKIES. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 63 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 33. WEST WIND 5 MPH.

THURSDAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 64 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 35. SOUTH WIND 5 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: CLEAR SKIES. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 61 - 71 AND EVENING LOWS 25 - 35. LIGHT WIND BECOMING EAST @ 10 MPH.

THURSDAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY AGAIN. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 61 - 71 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 26 - 36. EAST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
