FORECAST 08-OCT-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

WEDNESDAY, 08-OCT-08, 7:18 AM

A FLAT RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES OVER OUR AREA TODAY GIVING US CLEAR SKIES AND WARM TEMPERATURES. A BIG CHANGE IN OUR WEATHER IS IN STORE FOR US STARTING ON THURSDAY AS A TROUGH OUT OF THE GULF OF ALASKA PUSHES ONTO THE WEST COAST. THIS TROUGH WILL BRING WITH IT COLD AIR SO WE WILL HAVE COOLER TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH INCREASING WINDS AS THAT TROUGH PASSES THROUGH. TEMPS COULD DROP AS MUCH AS 25 DEGREES IN SOME AREAS OVER THE WEEKEND THE FURTHER NORTH YOU GO. SO EXPECT SUB FREEZING TEMPERATURES IN THE HIGH COUNTRY. NOT MUCH MOISTURE HERE, BUT I DO EXPECT A CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS IN THE MOUNTAINS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN ON MONDAY AND TEMPS REBOUND BACK TO AROUND NORMAL BY MONDAY OR TUESDAY.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY BLUE SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 86 FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE LOWER 40S. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 9 MPH BECOMING WEST @ 8.

THURSDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 79 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS AROUND 37. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 11 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 66 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 36. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

THURSDAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 53 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 29. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH GUSTING TO 20.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 72 - 82 AND EVENING LOWS 27 - 37. WINDS WILL BE FROM THE WEST @ 10 MPH.

THURSDAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 60 - 70 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 16 - 28. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
