FORECAST 26-SEP-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 26-SEP-08, 7:00 AM

NOT MUCH GOING ON IN OUR WEATHER TODAY AS SUMMER HANGS ON. TEMPERATURES WILL BE SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL WITH MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES. THEN THINGS CHANGE A LITTLE AS THE FLOW ALOFT TURNS IN A MORE SOUTHERLY DIRECTION AND IS FAVOURABLE FOR THE TRANSPORT OF MOISTURE. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE CREST STARTING ON SATURDAY AND CONTINUING THROUGH MONDAY. TEMPS WILL DROP A FEW DEGREES AS WELL. NOW BY MID TO END OF NEXT WEEK, ANOTHER MORE SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN OUR WEATHER JUST MIGHT BE IN STORE FOR US. THE LARGE BLOCKING RIDGE AXIS IS FORECAST TO TRANSITION EASTWARD AND THIS COULD TURN OUR WEATHER OVER TIME TO COOLER, WETTER AND WINDIER. WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE HOW THIS ALL DEVELOPS.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 90 FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. SOUTH WIND 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 90 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS AROUND 47. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 70 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 40. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 25.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. CHANCE OF PRECIPT 10%. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 69 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 41. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 75 - 85 AND EVENING LOWS 35 - 45. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SIERRA CREST THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 73 - 83 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 33 - 43. SOUTH WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
