High Sierra Topix

Just when I was getting warmed up. Good call, tho. No one is gonna convert anyone on these topics. It is probably best that we stick to the things we have in common. People from all walks of life and all viewpoints can love the backcountry ,though we might come at it from different viewpoints. On a lighter note ,does anyone else enjoy just wandering around in the sporadic and diverse redwood groves and checking them out? The backcountry groves are some of our best treasures. Their lure is second only to checking out a new ,potential fishing experiance for me. I can't get enough of either. Too bad a guy can't make a living just wandering around the woods and looking at stuff. jls

Ha! I got the last word before it was locked! I don't exactly what I was saying nor was I even taking a particular stance, but that doesn't matter, I still got the last word. Neener!

Well that stinks! I drop a bomb into that thread to stir things up, get away from the computer for a few days and when I come back the thread is locked and I can't jump into the fray. Most of the list that was posted has not been "proven" and the spotted owl demise has been largely disproven. I agree with a lot of what Buck said. As a Christian, we should be good stewards of God's Creation, but we shouldn't worship God's Creation as if the Creation itself is our god. The problem with the extreme enviros is that the environment takes precedence over anything and the last time I checked, humans were God's Creation also and just as much a part of nature as anything else. To completely destroy lives and economies, on a small scale...spotted owls, and on a larger scale...what Kyoto would have done, based on "science" that has not been proven, would not be wise.

P.S. Why was the thread locked?

Living in a small community, close to a small town, I get to know many people and get to hear alot. The targets of environmental terrorism where I live have been mostly small companies or individuals. On the first Yellow Ribbon Rally, a logger driving his own truck had paint thrown at it, loggers behind him stopped to help him clean it up. Dirt has been put into gear boxes and crankcases of equipment, windows broken in graders, county equipment has been tampered with. Spikes or nails have been put in boards I think, at the bottom of of hills where a truck would have to stop before entering a paved road. All these people have wives and children to support. Sierra Pacific Industries had some of their trucks messed with one time while they were in the yard, I can't recall what happened.

We are all here for the same reason, that is what I was thinking over the weekend. Let's not turn this into another Backpacker Magazine forum.
