FORECAST 19-SEP-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

A LITTLE PREVIEW OF FALL TODAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND BEFORE IT OFFICIALLY ARRIVES ON MONDAY. THIS IS ALL COURTESY OF TWO SHORTWAVE TROUGHS, ONE TODAY AND ANOTHER ON SUNDAY. TODAY'S TROUGH WILL BRUSH NORTHERN CALIFORNIA THIS AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING WITH MOST OF ITS MOISTURE FROM YOSEMITE NORTH. THIS TROUGH WILL KEEP OUR COOLING TREND GOING WITH A FEW GUSTY WINDS IN THE OWENS VALLEY AND MONO COUNTY. I CAN'T EVEN RULE OUT A THUNDERSTORM OR TWO IN MONO COUNTY TODAY. LITTLE TEMPERATURE RECOVERY WILL HAPPEN OVER THE WEEKEND AS THE SECOND TROUGH MOVES THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST SUNDAY. MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES ARE IN STORE FOR US INTO AT LEAST MONDAY. BY TUESDAY, A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN AND WE CAN EXPECT A WARMING TREND INTO THURSDAY WITH A CONTINUATION OF FAIR SKIES. IT LOOKS LIKE SUMMER JUST MIGHT GO OUT LIKE A LION.
TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 85 FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. SOUTH WIND 10 - 18 MPH GUSTING TO 25.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 86 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS AROUND 45. NORTHEAST WIND 7 - 11 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 65 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 38. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 64 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 34. WEST WIND 5 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY SUNNY TO PARTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 69 - 79 AND EVENING LOWS 29 - 39. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 67 - 77 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 25 - 35. NORTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
