FORECAST 18-SEP-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

THURSDAY, 18-SEP-08, 7:11 AM

THE SHORTWAVE TROUGH THAT LOWERED TEMPS YESTERDAY AND KEPT A FEW CLOUDS OVER THE MOUNTAINS IS NOW WELL EAST OF OUR AREA. THE NEXT SYSTEM WILL APPROACH THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST AND MOVE ACROSS THE REGION ON FRIDAY. I DON'T EXPECT MUCH MOISTURE WITH THIS SYSTEM, AS MOST OF IT WILL REMAIN NORTH OF YOSEMITE, BUT THE WINDS WILL KICK UP A BIT IN MAMMOTH AND THE REST OF MONO COUNTY ON FRIDAY. FOR MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY WINDS GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED. TEMPS WILL REMAIN IN THE MID TO UPPER 80S FOR THE VALLEYS AND IN THE LOW TO MID 60S FOR MAMMOTH THROUGH ABOUT MONDAY WITH CLEAR TO MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES. THEN GRADUAL WARMING WILL BEGIN TO OCCUR THROUGH MID WEEK AS AN EASTERN PACIFIC RIDGE BUILDS IN.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY BLUE SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 88 FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. SOUTHEAST WIND 7 - 11 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 87 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS AROUND 46. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 - 15 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR 67 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 40. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH BREEZY CONDITIONS. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 64 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 38. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 25.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 70 - 80 AND EVENING LOWS 32 - 42. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY SUNNY AND BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 68 - 78 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 28 - 38. SOUTHWEST WIND 15 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
