Tepihite Fire

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Tepihite Fire

Post by kgw »

I thought I would share that on the last two nites of our hike, last Sunday and Monday, there was quite a bit of smoke coming over the Palisades from the Tepihite Fire in NW Kings Canyon. It has evidently been flaring up, and now covers about 4500 acres. It's a "let burn" area between 5500-6500', in steep canyons. The Forest Service has a fire bulletin web page with a .pdf file showing the trail closures in the area.

It's quite smoky further north too. I could see smoke all week from various points on an epic 7 day backpack.
