FORECAST 26-AUG-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

TUESDAY, 26-AUG-08, 6:59 AM

VERY SLIGHT COOLING TODAY AS THAT PAC NW SHORTWAVE THAT CAUSED OUR WINDY CONDITIONS YESTERDAY, MOVES INTO THE ROCKIES. A LARGE RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE THEN BUILDS IN OVER CENTRAL CALIFORNIA AND WILL BRING WITH IT A GOOD WARMING TREND FROM WEDNESDAY INTO SATURDAY, WITH SLIGHT COOLING ON SUNDAY. TEMPERATURES AT OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE CENTURY MARK ARE POSSIBLE FOR THE OWENS VALLEY STARTING ON WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY AND IN THE LOW 80S FOR MAMMOTH. ALSO, WE ARE LOOKING AT TEMPERATURES NEAR 125 DEGREES IN DEATH VALLEY ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. AS FOR THE RETURN OF THE MONSOON MOISTURE TO OUR AREA, THERE STILL REMAINS GOOD MID AND UPPER LEVEL MOISTURE FROM THE REMNANTS OF T.S. JULIO, BUT THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER CENTRAL CALIFORNIA HAS PUSHED MOST OF IT TO OUR SOUTH. ON THURSDAY, THE FLOW WILL TURN MORE SOUTHEASTERLY AS THAT RIDGE MOVES INTO THE FOUR CORNERS AREA, SO THIS OPENS THE DOOR FOR A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE HIGH COUNTRY STARTING ON FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND. WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE HOW THIS ALL DEVELOPS.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY BLUE SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE UPPER 90S (NEAR 99) FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 100 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTH WIND 5 -9 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: CLEAR SKIES. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 75 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 48. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 80 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 49. WEST WIND 5 MPH BECOMING NORTH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 78 - 88 AND EVENING LOWS 39 - 49. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 MPH SHIFTING TO THE NORTHWEST.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 82 - 92 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 41 - 51. NORTH WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
