FORECAST 25-AUG-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

MONDAY, 25-AUG-08, 6:53 AM

A SHORTWAVE TROUGH IS MOVING THROUGH THE PAC NW TODAY WITH THE TAIL END BRUSHING NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. IT WILL HAVE A SLIGHT IMPACT ON REDUCING OUR TEMPERATURES TOMORROW AND WILL INCREASE THE WINDS PARTICULARLY OVER THE HIGH COUNTRY TODAY. WIND PRONE AREAS WILL SEE WINDS TO 40 MPH AND OVER THE CREST TO +60 MPH. THESE WINDS SHOULD BE SHORT-LIVED AND BY TOMORROW THINGS WILL HAVE SETTLED DOWN. THE REST OF OUR WEATHER LOOKS TO BE ON THE WARM SIDE WEDNESDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND. WE ALSO HAVE THE POSSIBLE RETURN OF MONSOON MOISTURE STARTING AS EARLY AS THURSDAY, BUT MOST LIKELY ON FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND. MID LEVEL MOISTURE FROM A SOUTH EASTERLY FLOW AND LINGERING MOISTURE FROM T.S. JULIO WILL GIVE US THE CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN OUR AREA.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE UPPER 90S (NEAR 99) FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE MID 90S AND OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. NORTHWEST WIND 3 - 9 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: CLEAR SKIES AND BREEZY. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 78 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 48. SOUTHWEST WIND INCREASING TO 15 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30 THEN DECREASING TO 5 - 10 LATE IN THE EVENING.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 73 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 48. WEST WIND 5 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY SKIES AND WINDY. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 81 - 91 AND EVENING LOWS 41 - 51. SOUTHWEST WIND 15 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 40 WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 60.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 77 - 87 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 40 - 50. NORTH WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
