FORECAST 22-AUG-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 22-AUG-08, 6:47 AM

A WEAK SHORTWAVE IS TRACKING ACROSS THE REGION AND WITH ITS MEEK MOISTURE AND LIGHT INSTABILITY, I CAN'T RULE OUT A SLIGHT CHANCE OF A FEW THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE CREST BOTH THIS AFTERNOON AND SATURDAY AFTERNOON. OTHERWISE OUR MILD WARMING TREND CONTINUES TODAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND, GIVING US MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND HOT TEMPERATURES. MAMMOTH WILL SEE HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES AROUND 80 AND THE OWENS VALLEY AROUND 99. ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY TEMPERATURES DROP BACK A FEW DEGREES AS ANOTHER, IN A SEEMLY ENDLESS STRING OF TROUGHS, MOVES THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE UPPER 90S (NEAR 98) FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. NORTHWEST WIND 10 MPH BECOMING SOUTHEAST 6 - 9 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE UPPER 90S AND OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTHEAST WIND 7 - 11 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 79 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 52. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION IS 10%. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 80 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 53. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 83 - 93 AND EVENING LOWS 44 - 54. SOUTH WIND 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY SKIES IN THE MORNING BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 83 - 93 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 45 - 55. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
