FORECAST 21-AUG-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

THURSDAY, 21-AUG-08, 7:04 AM

THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST TROUGH THAT BROUGHT US A NICE COOL DOWN HAS NOW MOVED EAST AND WE CAN EXPECT TEMPERATURES TO MOVE IN AN UPWARD TREND FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING IN OVERHEAD ON FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS TEMPEREATURE INCREASE. THEN THE THE RIDGE WEAKENS A BIT ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY AS A LONGWAVE TROUGH STRENGTHENS OVER THE PAC NW GIVING OUR AREA A MODERATE DROP IN TEMPERATURES THROUGH MID WEEK. SOME AFTERNOON BUILD UPS SHOULD OCCUR OVER THE CREST FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND, OTHERWISE MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND WARM TEMPERATURES THROUGH THAT TIME PERIOD.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES NEAR 97 FOLLOWED BY OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTHEAST WIND 6 - 9 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN THE UPPER 90S AND OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTHEAST WIND 7 - 11 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 77 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 49. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 20.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL BE AROUND 78 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 51. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY SKIES. DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 81 - 91 AND EVENING LOWS 43 - 53. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 82 - 92 AND OVERNIGHT LOWS 44 - 54. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
