FORECAST 18-AUG-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

MONDAY, 18-AUG-08, 7:021 AM

AFTER THE MAMMOTH AREA EXPERIENCED ISOLATED SHOWER ACTIVITY ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, MONSOON MOISTURE WILL REDUCE TODAY AS DRIER AIR WORKS ITS WAY ACROSS OUR FORECAST AREA. I EXPECT DRY CONDITIONS AND MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK. DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE, TEMPERATURES SHOULD RUN 5 TO 8 DEGREES COOLER THAN LAST WEEK. RIDGE WINDS HAVE INCREASED IN MONO COUNTY TODAY. GUSTS TO 50 MPH WERE RECORDED ALONG THE CREST THIS MORNING AND SLIDE MOUNTAIN HAD GUSTS TO 40. WINDS WILL ALSO BE AN ISSUE ON TUESDAY AHEAD OF AN UPPER LOW PUSHING THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE FOUR CORNERS AREAS EXPANDS WESTWARD OVER THE WEEKEND, INCREASING TEMPERATURES AND SIGNALING THE POSSIBLE RETURN OF SOME MID LEVEL MOISTURE TO OUR AREA.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S (AROUND 96) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTHWEST WIND 6 - 11 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S (AROUND 94) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 50S. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 75 EVENING LOWS AROUND 46. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 72 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 46. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 78 - 88 AND EVENING LOWS 39 - 49. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30 WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 50.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 74 - 85 AND EVENING LOWS 39 - 49. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
