FORECAST 15-AUG-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 15-AUG-08, 7:03 AM

THE WEST COAST RIDGE IS STILL IN PLACE AND WITH IT COMES CONTINUED WARM TEMPERATURES. SOME MOISTURE DID SLIP UNDER THAT RIDGE YESTERDAY, FUELING A CUMULUS BUILDUP IN THE SOUTHERN SIERRA. THAT RIDGE WILL WEAKEN OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS AS A TROUGH OUT OF THE GULF OF ALASKA PUSHES THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. SO, LITTLE CHANGE IN TEMPERATURES TODAY THEN TEMPERATURES SHOULD GRADUALLY LOWER THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND CONTINUE THAT TREND INTO THE FIRST PART OF NEXT WEEK. SOME MONSOONAL MOISTURE IS PUSHING INTO THE REGION, BUT MOST WILL STAY TO THE SOUTH AND WEST OF OUR AREA. STILL, THERE WILL BE ENOUGH MOISTURE FOR SOME MULTI-LAYERED CLOUDS AND INSTABILITY GIVING US A CHANCE AT A FEW THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE SIERRA CREST SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY AND HOT. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 102 AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. SOUTHEAST WIND 6 - 9 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT DROP IN DAYTIME TEMPERATURES. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 99 AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 81 EVENING LOWS AROUND 52. WEST WIND 5 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES THEN BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. THERE WILL BE A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION 10%. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 79 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 52. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 87 - 97 AND EVENING LOWS 45 - 55. NORTHEAST WIND 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 85 - 95 AND EVENING LOWS 45 - 55. WEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
