FORECAST 28-JUL-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

OUR UPPER RIDGE WEAKENED A BIT OVER THE WEEKEND, THUS WE HAD SOME T-STORM ACTIVITY PARTICULARLY IN THE SOUTHERN SIERRA ON SUNDAY. THAT RIDGE STRENGTHENS TODAY AHEAD OF A SHORTWAVE TROUGH THAT WILL REACH THE PAC NW THIS AFTERNOON. THE MONO COUNTY HIGH COUNTRY CAN EXPECT A CHANCE OF T-STORM ACTIVITY THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. TUESDAY WILL SEE AND INCREASE IN THE WINDS DUE TO THAT TROUGH AND A SLIGHT DECREASE IN TEMPS. HAZE AND SMOKE, FROM THE TELEGRAPH FIRE, WILL EFFECT US FOR AT LEAST THE SHORT TERM. THE LONG TERM FORECAST WILL BE DOMINATED BY HIGH PRESSURE, GIVING US WARM TEMPS AND MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES WITH AREAS OF SMOKE. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 100 AND EVENING LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES THE UPPER 90S (AROUND 99) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTHEAST WIND 13 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 24.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: WIDESPREAD HAZE WITH A CHANCE OF ISOLATED T-STORMS THIS AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 77 EVENING LOWS AROUND 47. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30. CHANCE OF PRECIPT 10%.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH CONTINUED HAZY CONDITIONS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 76 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 48. WEST WIND 15 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. AREAS OF HAZE AND SMOKE THROUGH OUT THE DAY. AFTERNOON T-STORMS POSSIBLE. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 82 - 92 AND EVENING LOWS 40 - 50. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: CONTINUED PARTLY CLOUDY THEN CLEARING. BREEZY CONDITONS WITH HAZE AND SMOKE. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 79 - 89 AND EVENING LOWS 40 - 50. WEST WIND 15 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
