FORECAST 16-JUL-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

WEDNESDAY, 16-JUL-08, 6:08 AM

LOW PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO COMBINE WITH MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR FOR AN ON-GOING CHANCE OF SCATTERED T-STORMS THROUGH TONIGHT. FLASH FLOODING IS STILL POSSIBLE IN ISOLATED AREAS. THAT LOW WILL MOVE EAST ON THURSDAY AND MONSOON MOISTURE WILL DECREASE ALONG WITH HUMIDITY LEVELS. HOWEVER SOME MOISTURE WILL LINGER UNTIL DRIER MORE STABLE AIR REACHES US ON FRIDAY AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN. RIGHT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE A MILD WARMING TREND STARTING ON FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS, PARTICULARLY ON SUNDAY, AS A TROUGH PASSES THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND BREAKS DOWN THAT RIDGE A LITTLE.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH A 20% CHANCE OF T-STORM ACTIVITY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOW 60S. NORTHWEST WIND 9 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S (AROUND 98) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. SOUTH WIND 10 - 13 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS AND T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 76 EVENING LOWS AROUND 49. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH. CHANCE OF PRECIPT 20%.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 79 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 49. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. CHANCE OF SCATTERED SHOWERS AND T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 79 - 89 AND EVENING LOWS 41 - 51. WEST WIND 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 81 - 91 AND EVENING LOWS 40 - 50. WEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME

Snowy:

As of 7am this morming, traffic was still one (1) lane only. CHP/CalTrans is still escorting the traffic through and as the day goes on, the line gets longer. It looks like CalTrans will NOT be finished on Friday, so don't know how long it will be before they are done; hopefully this weekend as I have to go through that area at least twice a day. I have been up to the Oak Creek area three times and the there is literally nothing left.

Thanks for the update. I'll be driving thru late, so maybe I'll get lucky and everyone will be asleep. :( Hope they clear up by the weekend.
