FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

MONDAY, 14-JUL-08, 7:08 AM

THAT INVERTED TROUGH OVER THE DESERT SOUTHWEST, THE ONE WE TALKED ABOUT ON FRIDAY, HAS CAUSED ISOLATED CONVECTION AND HEAVY SHOWER ACTIVITY IN PARTS OF THE OWENS VALLEY ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. THE ALABAMA HILLS RECEIVED ONE INCH OF RAIN IN A 2 HOUR PERIOD ON SATURDAY NIGHT AND ANOTHER 3/8 OF AN INCH LAST NIGHT IN A 30 MINUTE PERIOD. AS OF 7 AM THIS MORNING, HWY 395 SOUTH OF INDEPENDENCE, IS STILL BEING MONITORED BY THE HWY PATROL AS LARGE AMOUNTS OF WATER AND MUD HAVE WASHED OVER THE ROADWAY. THUNDER AND LIGHTENING WAS REPORTED UP AND DOWN THE FORECAST AREA, PARTICULARLY ON SATURDAY NIGHT. THAT TROUGH IS CURRENTLY REMAINING STATIONARY OVER THE DESERT SW, SO MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR WILL STAY WITH US THROUGH AT LEAST TUESDAY WITH THUNDERSTORMS AND PERIODS OF ISOLATED HEAVY RAIN IN THE AFTERNOON POSSIBLE.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH A 30% CHANCE OF T-STORM ACTIVITY. ON-GOING CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S (AROUND 94) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOW 60S. NORTHWEST WIND 5 -11 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY THEN BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF AFTERNOON T-STORMS AND ISOLATED SHOWERS. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S (AROUND 96) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 - 14 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS AND T-STORMS. CHANCE OF PRECIPT 30%. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 78 EVENING LOWS AROUND 52. CALM WIND BECOMING WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH. CONTINUED AREAS OF SMOKE.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: PARTLY CLOUDY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH AREAS OF HAZE AND SMOKE THROUGH OUT THE DAY. CHANCE OF SCATTERED SHOWERS AND T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 80 - 90 AND EVENING LOWS 44 - 54. WEST WIND 10 MPH.
