FORECAST 11-JUL-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 11-JUL-08, 7:10 AM

AN INVERTED MID LEVEL TROUGH ALONG THE LOWER COLORADO RIVER IS BOTH INCREASING MONSOON MOISTURE AND ATTEMPTING TO SPLIT THAT HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT HAS BROUGHT US BLISTERING TEMPERATURES. ALL THIS TRANSLATES INTO SLIGHT COOLER TEMPS FOR US THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND AN INCREASED CHANCE OF T-STORMS OVER OUR AREA, PARTICULARLY ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. POOR AIR QUALITY WILL CONTINUE TODAY THEN AS THE FLOW CHANGES TO MORE EASTERLY, THINGS SHOULD CLEAR OUT A BIT OVER THE WEEKEND.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES AND CONTINUED HOT. AREAS OF HAZE AND SMOKE. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 100S (AROUND 102) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 60S. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 -11 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY THEN BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF AFTERNOON T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S (AROUND 99) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 - 14 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. WIDESPREAD SMOKE WITH A CHANCE OF ISOLATED T-STORMS. CHANCE OF PRECIPT 10%. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 83 EVENING LOWS AROUND 52. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. AREAS OF HAZE. CHANCE OF AFTERNOON T-STORM ACTIVITY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 82 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 53. WEST WIND 5 MPH. CHANCE OF PRECIPT IS 20%.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH AREAS OF HAZE AND SMOKE THROUGH OUT THE DAY. CHANCE OF AFTERNOON T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 84 -94 AND EVENING LOWS 44 - 54. NORTHEAST WIND 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: PARTLY CLOUDY BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH AREAS OF SMOKE IN THE MORNING. CHANCE OF AFTERNOON T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 84 - 94 AND EVENING LOWS 43 - 53. NORTHEAST WIND 10 MPH.

FOR KSRW THIS IS DENNIS MATTINSON; HAVE A GREAT "GO DO IT WEEKEND."

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
