FORECAST 10-JUL-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

THURSDAY, 10-JUL-08, 7:03 AM

ANOTHER OPPRESSIVE DAY OF HEAT IN THE VALLEYS AS THAT STRONG RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES TO DOMINATE. CLOUDS WILL CREEP OVER THE CREST SO A CHANCE OF ISOLATED T-STORMS THIS AFTERNOON. I SEE LITTLE CHANGE IN OUR WEATHER FOR THE SHORT TERM, BUT A WEAK EASTERLY FLOW WILL GIVE US THE CHANCE OF ADDITIONAL T-STORM ACTIVITY INTO THE WEEKEND. RIGHT NOW, THESE THUNDERSTORMS LOOK TO BE MOSTLY ON THE DRY SIDE WITH AN ISOLATED SHOWER OR TWO IN THE HIGH COUNTRY. DEPENDING ON CLOUD COVER, THIS SHOULD TRANSLATE IN TO SLIGHTLY LOWER TEMPS IN OUR FORECAST AREA ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES AND CONTINUED HOT. AREAS OF HAZE AND SMOKE. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 100S (AROUND 105) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 60S. NORTHWEST WIND 4 -7 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY AND HOT. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 100S (AROUND 104) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE UPPER 60S. NORTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. WIDESPREAD HAZE WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 85 EVENING LOWS AROUND 54. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH GUSTING TO 20.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF T-STORM ACTIVITY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 82 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 54. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH. CHANCE OF PRECIPT IS 10%.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH AREAS OF HAZE. SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 87 -97 AND EVENING LOWS 48 - 58. NORTH WIND 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH AREAS OF SMOKE. SLIGHT CHANCE OF AFTERNOON T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 84 - 94 AND EVENING LOWS 47 - 57. WEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
