FORECAST 08-JUL-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

TUESDAY, 08-JUL-08, 7:03 AM

AN UPPER RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE HAS STRENGTHENED AND WILL BRING UNSEASONABLY WARM TEMPS TO THE HIGH COUNTRY AND THE OWENS VALLEY FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT FEW DAYS. TEMPS WILL BE IN THE 102 TO 105 RANGE FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND IN THE MID 80S FOR MAMMOTH. A BIT OF MID LEVEL MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY MOVED OVER THE CREST ON MONDAY AND TODAY WILL BE SIMILAR WITH A SHOWER OF TWO POSSIBLE AT THE CREST LEVEL. BY THE END OF THE WEEK, THAT RIDGE WILL WEAKEN AND THAT WILL ALLOW TEMPERATURES TO DECLINE A BIT. AND ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY, WE JUST MIGHT SEE OUR FIRST PUSH OF MONSOON MOISTURE INTO AREA. AS MENTIONED IN YESTERDAYS FORECAST, THE NORTHERLY FLOW OVERHEAD HAS HELPED TO CLEAR OUT THE SMOKE A LITTLE, BUT I STILL EXPECT SOME HAZY DAYS AHEAD FOR US; ALBEIT NOT AS BAD AS LAST WEEK.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES AND HOT. SOME HAZE. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 100S (AROUND 103) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 8 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY AND VERY HOT. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 100S (AROUND 104) AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 60S. NORTHWEST WIND 4 - 7 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED T-STORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 83 EVENING LOWS AROUND 53. NORTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 85 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 55. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 9 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. CHANCE OF ISOLATED T-STORMS NEAR THE CREST. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 85 - 95 AND EVENING LOWS 46 - 56. NORTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 87 - 97 AND EVENING LOWS 48 - 58. NORTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
