FORECAST 24-JUN-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

TUESDAY, 24-JUN-08, 7:09 AM

A VERY WEAK UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVES THROUGH THE PACNW TODAY KICKING UP THE BREEZES JUST A BIT BUT KEEPING TEMPS ABOUT THE SAME. A VERY SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS EXIST OVER THE MONO COUNTY HIGH COUNTRY THROUGH THE WEEK. PLENTY OF SMOKE THROUGH OUT THE OWENS VALLEY AND MONO COUNTY FROM NUMEROUS WILDFIRES IN CALIFORNIA WILL REDUCE VISIBILITIES. AN UPPER RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE IS STILL ANCHORED OVER THE FOUR CORNERS AREA FORCING ALL THE ENERGY SOUTHWARD ALONG THE COAST WEDNESDAY AND BEGINNING TO DEVELOP A CUTOFF LOW BY THURSDAY. NOT MUCH EFFECT ON US AS THAT LOW RETROGRADES TO THE WEST ALLOWING THE RIDGE TO BUILD OVER OUR REGION. THIS MEANS CONTINUED HOT TEMPERATURES OVER THE WEEKEND. NOT MUCH INSTABILITY FOR THE PERIOD WITH LIMITED T-STORMS POSSIBLE OVER THE CREST ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES WITH AREAS OF SMOKE. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 50S. SOUTHWEST WIND 8 - 11 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY, HOT AND HAZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 50S. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 -15 MPH GUSTING TO 20.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HAZY CONDITIONS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 75 EVENING LOWS AROUND 54. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY SUNNY AND HAZY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF T-STORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 75 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 53. WEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH AREAS OF SMOKE AND HAZE. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 77 - 87 EVENING LOWS 37 - 47. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. CONTINUED SMOKEY AND HAZY WITH REDUCED VISIBILITIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 78 - 88 AND EVENING LOWS 38 - 48. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

FOR KSRW, THIS IS DENNIS MATTINSON
