FORECAST 29-MAY-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

THURSDAY, 29-MAY-08, 7:10 AM

THAT SEMI-STATIONARY UPPER TROUGH IS NOW READY TO MOVE INLAND TODAY AND TONIGHT. THERE ARE STILL SOME EMBEDDED VORTICES WITHIN IT AND THIS WILL CREATE SOME INSTABILITY CONTINUING THE CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY OVER THE MOUNTAINS, PARTICULARLY IN MONO COUNTY THIS AFTERNOON. AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL SET UP FRIDAY AND GIVE US A DRY SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW RESULTING IN A WARMING TREND THROUGH THE WEEKEND. RIGHT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER TROUGH WILL PASS THROUGH THE PACNW MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY SETTING UP THE POSSIBILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS IN THE MOUNTAINS ONCE AGAIN THROUGH ABOUT WEDNESDAY.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 70S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 40S. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 70S / LOW 80S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 - 15 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF OCCASIONAL SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 55 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 34. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 63 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 35. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 57 - 67 AND EVENING LOWS 31 - 40. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 65 - 75 AND EVENING LOWS 32 -42. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
