FORECAST 28-MAY-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

WEDNESDAY, 28-MAY-08, 7:06 AM

THAT COOL UPPER LEVEL TROUGH STILL LINGERS OFF THE WEST COAST AND WILL GIVE US A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS AND SHOWERS IN THE MOUNTAINS THROUGH THURSDAY. IT THEN OPENS UP AND MOVES INLAND THURSDAY AFTERNOON INTO FRIDAY WITH A SHORTWAVE RIDGE DEVELOPING OVER THE WEST. THIS WILL GIVE US A DRY NORTHWEST FLOW AND MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND WARMING TEMPERATURES OVER THE WEEKEND. LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY THE SEEMLY ENDLESS NUMBER OF TROUGHS MOVING THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST CONTINUES. THAT UPPER RIDGE SHIFTS EAST IN RESPONSE TO ANOTHER TROUGH WHICH WILL JUST BRUSH OUR AREA. THERE WILL BE ENOUGH INSTABILITY TO WARRANT A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING IN THE MONO COUNTY HIGH COUNTRY AND THE WHITE MOUNTAINS. DRY WEATHER ON WEDNESDAY THEN YET ANOTHER TROUGH TAPS OUR AREA ON THURSDAY.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 70S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 40S. NORTH WIND 10 MPH BECOMING SOUTHEAST 5 - 15.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 70S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 50% CHANCE OF OCCASIONAL SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HAIL IS POSSIBLE HERE. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 48 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 35. WEST WIND 5 - 10.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY SUNNY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 54 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 33. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 51 - 61 AND EVENING LOWS 31 - 40. SOUTH WIND 10 BECOMING WEST 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 57 - 67 AND EVENING LOWS 29 -39. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
