FORECAST 23-MAY-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

FRIDAY, 23-MAY-08, 7:02 AM

WE HAVE A FAIRLY COMPLICATED WEATHER PATTERN FOR THE NEXT 7 DAYS. TO BEGIN, A BROAD UPPER LOW IS CURRENTLY CENTERED OVER EASTERN NEVADA AND IT WILL RETROGRADE INTO THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST BY SATURDAY. THIS LOW WILL REMAIN QUASI STATIONARY AND CONTINUE TO PUMP VARYING AMOUNTS OF MOISTURE INTO OUR AREA THROUGH THE MIDDLE PART OF NEXT WEEK. AS LONG AS IT STAYS IN RELATIVE PLACE, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE UNSETTLED WEATHER WITH AN ON-GOING CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, PARTICULARLY FOR THE MONO COUNTY HIGH COUNTRY THROUGH ABOUT WEDNESDAY. THE OWENS VALLEY WILL ALSO BE EFFECTED BY THIS LOW, BUT SHOULD SEE PARTIAL CLEARING BY MEMORIAL DAY. WINDS WILL DECREASE TO A MORE MANAGABLE LEVEL AND TEMPS WILL REMAIN BELOW SEASONAL NORMS THROUGH THIS PERIOD. BY THURSDAY OF NEXT WEEK THAT LOW MOVES ON AND GIVES THE HIGH COUNTY MOSTLY SUNNY CONDITIONS.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 60S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 40S. NORTHWEST WIND 10 MPH BECOMING SOUTHWEST 5 - 10.

SATURDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 40% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 60S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 40S. SOUTHEAST WIND 7 - 10.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 40 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 29. NORTH WIND 5 - 10 WITH AN OCCASIONAL GUST TO 20.

SATURDAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 40% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 44 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 31. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH BECOMING CALM.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH SNOW SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY BECOMING MORE ISOLATED LATER TONIGHT . HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 46 - 56 AND EVENING LOWS 29 - 37. NORTH WIND 10 MPH SHIFTING TO THE SOUTHWEST @ 10 - 15.

SATURDAY FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 48 - 58 AND EVENING LOWS 29 -39. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

THIS IS DENNIS MATTINSON, HAVE A GREAT "GO DO IT" HOLIDAY WEEKEND!

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
