FORECAST 21-MAY-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

WEDNESDAY, 21-MAY-08, 7:05 AM

THAT HOT UPPER LEVEL RIDGE, THAT BROUGHT US NEAR RECORD TEMPS, HAS BEEN QUICKLY REPLACED BY AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG UPPER LEVEL TROUGH MOVING THROUGH CALIFORNIA. THIS WILL CONTINUE TO REDUCE TEMPERATURES DRAMATICALLY AND KICK UP THE WINDS IN OUR AREA. A WIND ADVISORY CONTINUES UNTIL 5 PM TODAY AND A RED FLAG WARNING UNTIL 8 PM TONIGHT. THAT TROUGH WILL MEANDER AROUND THE DESERT SOUTHWEST CREATING UNSETTLED WEATHER FOR US THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH AN OFF AND ON CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN BELOW NORMAL THROUGH SUNDAY THEN START TO GRADUALLY RISE ON MEMORIAL DAY ALONG WITH DRIER WEATHER.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY AND BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 70S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 40S. NORTHWEST WIND 20 - 30 MPH GUSTING TO 40 THEN DECREASING TO 10 - 15 LATE IN THE EVENING.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 70S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 40S. NORTH WIND 15 - 20 GUSTING TO 30.

TODAY FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20 % CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 53 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 27. NORTHWEST WIND 15 - 20 GUSTING TO 30.

TOMORROW FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20 % CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 45 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 30. NORTHEAST WIND 5 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 25.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 50 - 60 AND EVENING LOWS 26 - 36. NORTHWEST WIND 15 - 25 MPH GUSTING TO 35 WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 60.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: PARTLY CLOUDY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 48 - 58 AND EVENING LOWS 27 - 37. NORTH WIND 15 - 25 MPH GUSTING TO 35 THEN DECREASING TO 10 - 15 LATE IN THE EVENING.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
