FORECAST 20-MAY-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

TUESDAY, 20-MAY-08, 7:05 AM

BISHOP BROKE THE ALL TIME HIGH YESTERDAY WITH A TEMPERATURE OF 99 DEGREES. I EXPECT COOLER TEMPERATURES TODAY THEN EVEN COOLER WEDNESDAY AS THE RIDGE OFF THE WEST COAST BREAKS DOWN IN RESPONSE TO A LARGE TROUGH MOVING INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. TEMPS COULD DROP AS MUCH AS 20 TO 30 DEGREES IN SOME AREAS FROM TODAY INTO THURSDAY. PRESSURE GRADIENTS WILL ALSO TIGHTEN CREATING WINDY CONDITIONS IN BOTH THE HIGH COUNTRY AND THE VALLEYS. THE WINDS WILL BE WITH US THIS AFTERNOON INTO AT LEAST WEDNESDAY. WE HAVE BOTH A RED FLAG WARNING FOR FIRE DANGER FROM 1 PM TO 9 PM TODAY ALONG WITH A HIGH WIND WARNING FROM 3PM TO 6 AM TOMORROW MORNING. UNSETTLED WEATHER WILL BE WITH US THROUGH THE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND WITH AN ONGOING CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE MOUNTAINS EACH DAY.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY AND BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WEST NORTHWEST WIND INCREASING TO 20 - 25 MPH GUSTING TO 36.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: PARTLY CLOUDY BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY AND VERY WINDY WITH AREAS OF BLOWING DUST IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 75 - 85 AND EVENING LOWS 34 - 44. WEST WIND INCREASING TO 20 - 30 MPH GUSTING TO 50 WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 80.
