FORECAST 13-MAY-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING FOUR TIMES A DAY ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

TUESDAY, 13-MAY-08, 7:12 AM

THE UPPER LEVEL TROUGH THAT BROUGHT WINDS TO OUR AREA AND SOME CLOUDS OVER THE MOUNTAINS CONTINUES TO MOVE EASTWARD TODAY. BEHIND THIS TROUGH THOSE WINDS WILL CONTINUE TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY THEN DECREASE. A STRONG EASTERN PACIFIC RIDGE WILL BEGIN TO BUILD IN, WARMING TEMPERATURES UP, STARTING ON WEDNESDAY. THAT RIDGE WILL REALLY ESTABLISH ITSELF ON THURSDAY WITH POSSIBLE RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES, FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR, OCCURRING ANYTIME FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. DAYTIME TEMPS COULD RAISE TO THE LOW TO MID 90S IN THE OWENS VALLEY AND THE MID 70S IN MAMMOTH BY THEN. MID LEVEL MOISTURE AND INCREASING INSTABILITY, AS SURFACE HEATING BUILDS, WILL CREATE THE SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN THE MONO COUNTY HIGH COUNTRY THIS WEEKEND.

TODAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES AND BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 70S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 40S. NORTHWEST WIND 15 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30 THEN DECREASING TO 5 - 10 LATER TONIGHT.

TOMORROW FOR THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY AND CONTINUED BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 80S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 50S. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 59 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 34. NORTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH LAKES: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 62 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 40. NORTH WIND 5 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 20.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: SUNNY AND BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 62 - 72 AND EVENING LOWS 31 - 41. NORTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: VARIABLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 66 - 76 AND EVENING LOWS 33 - 43. NORTHWEST WIND 10 -15 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION AND IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
