FORECAST 27-FEB-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MONO COUNTY AND MAMMOTH
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING FOUR TIMES A DAY ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2008 7:08 AM

AN UPPER RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES TO REMAIN IN PLACE WITH SOME HIGH CLOUDS SPILLING OVER THE CREST. SOME FREEZING FOG IS STILL POSSIBLE FOR THE MONO LAKE AREA TONIGHT INTO TOMORROW MORNING. THAT UPPER RIDGE WILL TEMPORARILY WEAKEN TONIGHT INTO THURSDAY AS A SHORTWAVE TROUGH SLIDES THROUGH THE REGION. THE ONLY EFFECT ON OUR WEATHER WILL BE A SLIGHT DIP IN THE TEMPERATURES AND AN INCREASE IN CLOUDS. ANOTHER TROUGH WILL HIT THE RIDGE ON SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY WITH THE ENERGY FROM THAT SYSTEM STAYING MAINLY TO OUR NORTH. HOWEVER WINDS SHOULD INCREASE OVER THE WEEKEND WITH CONTINUED DRY CONDITIONS AND COOLER TEMPS SUNDAY INTO MONDAY. MODELS ARE NOW HINTING AT A MUCH LARGER SYSTEM MOVING IN THE MID PART OF NEXT WEEK, SO STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY TONIGHT. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 66 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 32. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 67 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 30. NORTH WIND 8 - 12 MPH.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH LAKES AND THE MONO VALLEYS: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH AREAS OF FREEZING FOG AROUND MONO LAKE. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 50 IN TOWN AND 60 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. EVENING LOWS RANGING FROM 11 - 21. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH LAKES AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 41 IN TOWN AND 50 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. EVENING LOWS RANGING FROM 13 - 23. NORTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION AND IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
