FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MONO COUNTY AND MAMMOTH

EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING FOUR TIMES A DAY ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2008 7:00 AM

A SHORTWAVE RIDGE OVER OUR AREA EARLY THIS MORNING WILL GIVE US PARTIALLY CLEARING SKIES. THEN A SHORTWAVE TROF WILL PUSH ON THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY. A SNOW ADVISORY WILL BE IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 4 AM FRIDAY. LOOKS LIKE THE PERIOD OF HEAVIEST SNOW WILL BE EARLY THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO COUNTY HIGH COUNTRY. EAST OF THE SIERRA CREST, THE MONO VALLEYS WILL GET A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW ON THE LIGHTER SIDE. THE OWENS VALLEY SHOULD SEE A 50% CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS AS THE DAY PROGRESSES INTO THE EVENING. FRIDAY AFTERNOON WILL SEE ANOTHER QUICK SHOT OF SNOW FOR THE HIGH COUNTRY AS A SECONDARY SHORTWAVE PASSES THROUGH. FINALLY, THE LAST IN THIS SERIES OF SYSTEMS WILL MOVE ON THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. SNOW LEVELS WILL DROP TO THE MONO VALLEY FLOORS BY SUNDAY AND MAMMOTH CAN EXPECT AS MUCH AS 30 INCHES OF NEW SNOW. THE OWENS VALLEY CAN EXPECT A 30% TO 40% CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON. LINGERING SHOWERS ON MONDAY AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN WITH GRADUAL DRYING AND WARMING CONDITIONS THROUGH THURSDAY.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS DURING THE DAY, INCREASING TO A 50% CHANCE THIS EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 50 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 30. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 8 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS THROUGH OUT THE DAY AND INTO THE EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 53 AND EVENING LOWS NEAR 29. SOUTHWEST WIND 7 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH LAKES AND THE MONO VALLEYS: FOR MAMMOTH, MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 90% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS DURING THE DAY AND INTO THE EVENING. A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW FOR THE MONO VALLEYS TURNING TO SNOW LATE. SNOW LEVEL 6, 00 FEET LOWERING TO THE VALLEY FLOOR LATE IN THE EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 28 IN TOWN AND 37 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. EVENING LOWS RANGING FROM 19 - 27. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 35.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH LAKES AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 70% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS THROUGH OUT THE DAY AND EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 29 IN TOWN AND 39 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. EVENING LOWS RANGING FROM 12 - 26. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 35.
