WEATHER FORECAST 15-FEB-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING FOUR TIMES A DAY ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2008 7:23 AM

AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE IN THE EASTERN PACIFIC WILL GRADUALLY NOSE OVER CALIFORNIA TODAY AND BE WITH US THROUGH THE WEEKEND. WE CAN EXPECT CLEAR SKIES, REDUCING WINDS AND A GRADUAL WARMING TREND THROUGH SUNDAY. AS THE RIDGE MOVES FARTHER INLAND MONDAY, IT WILL BE REPLACED BY A PROGRESSIVE PATTERN OF MULTIPLE SHORTWAVES IMPACTING OUR AREA. THE FIRST SHORTWAVE WILL ARRIVE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY AND LOOKS QUITE UN-IMPRESSIVE AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER, THERE STILL REMAINS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO COUNTY HIGH COUNTRY ON TUESDAY. A MORE ORGANIZED SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY WITH A BETTER CHANCE OF SNOW IN THE HIGH COUNTRY AND A SLIGHT CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION IN THE OWENS VALLEY.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES NEAR 57 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 25. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH WITH SOME GUSTS TO 20 BECOMING 8 - 10 MPH LATER THIS AFTERNOON.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES NEAR 63 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 29. NORTHWEST WIND 7 - 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH LAKES AND THE MONO VALLEYS: SUNNY BLUE SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES NEAR 42 IN TOWN AND 52 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. EVENING LOWS RANGING FROM 7 - 17. NORTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 25 BECOMING 5 - 10 LATER THIS EVENING.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH LAKES AND THE MONO VALLEYS: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES NEAR 46 IN TOWN AND 55 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. EVENING LOWS RANGING FROM 12 - 22. NORTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.
