WEATHER FORECAST 11/09/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 8:41 AM PST NOV 09, 2007

A COUPLE OF LOW PRESSURE SYSTEMS WILL MOVE THROUGH OUR AREA WITHIN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THE FIRST, A CUTOFF LOW WHICH HAS BEEN LURKING OFF THE COAST ALL WEEK, WILL MOVE INLAND LATER TODAY. THIS WILL GIVE MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE SECOND AND STRONGEST OF THE TWO WEATHER SYSTEMS WILL PASS THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. MORE MOISTURE WILL BE AVAILABLE WITH THE SYSTEM, SO I EXPECT MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY TO HAVE A GOOD CHANCE AT A FEW INCHES OR MORE OF SNOW.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES NEAR 70 AND LOWS IN THE MID 30S. SOUTHEAST WIND 6 - 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY SUNNY SKIES BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY. 40% CHANCE OF RAIN LATE IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 70S AND LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 13 MPH.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH LAKES AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MID DAY THROUGH THE EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 50S FOR THE TOWN AND THE LOW 60S FOR THE VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 27 - 38. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH LAKES AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 40% CHANCE OF RAIN AND SNOW OVERNIGHT. SNOW LEVEL DROPPING DOWN TO 7,500 FEET LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 50S FOR THE TOWN AND THE LOW 60S FOR THE VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 23 - 33. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH

FOR SUNDAY, TEMPERATURES WILL LOWER QUITE A BIT DURING THE DAY AND EVENING AND WINDS WILL PICK UP TO 15 - 25 MPH FOR MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY. MAMMOTH WILL HAVE A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW THROUGH OUT THE DAY. THE OWENS VALLEY WILL CONTINUE WITH A 40% CHANCE OF RAIN. BY MONDAY, THE LOW SHOULD HAVE PASSED ON THROUGH WITH HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING IN AND CLEARING CONDITIONS THROUGH MID WEEK.
