Rain Rain go away, Flash flooding, not ok.

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Winterfest 2006 ended early, late yesterday (12/30), due to info supplied by a FS employee at Bunny Flat (Mt Shasta) to some of our group. He said we could receive 6' of snow by Sunday night. I missed the group on Thursday, but caught up with them on Friday afternoon after the road was plowed so I could make it up to the top. In the three hours I was at camp the parking lot received anothe 10" to 12" of snow. We bailed and I ended up heading home, I got home real early this morning. Good thing I guess, highway 70 east of Jarbo Gap was closed due to a rock slide, must have been the one I passed. I would have had to go up 32 or 36 to access 70. Then 89 was closed for awhile just north of the Greenville wye where 70 and 89 join again. Heavy rain here last night, actually early this morning since I got home early in the morning. I live on a creek, but it just made lots of noise, expanded its area some, but really a roaring.

Well, stopped raining here in the Valley over an hour ago, but has been snowing since! :) Coming down nicely now. Wow, what a welcome change from the last several days of constant rain! My spirits are picking up already!

It's been nice 'n powdery all day, but isn't just now coming down a bit wetter. Still nice, all the same. Looks like about 3" so far...

Snow is letting up in Carson, time to shovel the drive, in a bit.

Funny thing, I was just reading thru this thread when I saw your comment about PR. The "stuff" is really hitting the fan here (and has been most of the day). Water everywhere, cars and trucks off the road, things going sidways, in general - a real mess!

Glad to hear that the rain has stopped down in Carson and Reno for you two :)
It has been an interesting last three days with the weather at Tahoe..Meyers where I live....Most of the South Shore lost power on Saturday..we lost our power at about 10:30 Saturday morning, and it came back on at 4:30, very high winds on Saturday, part of our fence blew down, and two trees fell and took out two power poles down the street....the winds were pretty bad & it's a bit scary when you live amongst the trees...Highway 50 was closed Saturday and then reopened & CHP were escorting so many cars per hour up and over Echo summit

It was so nice to get the power back on :D ...we have an all electric home..so we have no back up heat. Very beautiful outside right now, it is so calm..no wind at all & almost a foot of new snow since about 11:00 this morning..earlier the snowflakes were those hugh fat flakes, now it is coming down less and smaller flakes. Im surprised they have not started blasting yet on Echo for avalanches.
Time to go out to shovel..happy new year everyone
