WEATHER FORECAST 10/10/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 6:12 AM PDT OCT 10, 2007

WE ARE STILL SEEING SOME STRONG WIND GUSTS THIS MORNING IN MONO COUNTY, UP TO 60 MPH. RIGHT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE THE HIGH WINDS WILL BEGIN TO DIMINISH THIS MORNING AS THE COLD FRONT PASSES ON TO THE EAST. A SHORT WAVE RIDGE WILL BUILD IN LATER TODAY AND CREATE MORE MILD CONDITIONS THROUGH THURSDAY, AHEAD OF ANOTHER SYSTEM ON FRIDAY.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 77 AND LOW TEMPERATURES AROUND 36. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH GUSTING TO AS MUCH AS 20.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 78 AND LOW TEMPERATURES AROUND 37. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES AND WINDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 56 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND THE MID 60S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 29 - 39. SOUTHWEST WIND GUSTING TO 40 MPH, DECREASING TO 10 MPH LATER IN THE DAY.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 60 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND THE LOW 70S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 31 - 39. SOUTHWEST WIND 5 -10 MPH.

FRIDAY'S SYSTEM COULD TRACK FARTHER SOUTH AND GIVE OUR AREA A BETTER SHOT AT PRECIPITATION FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING. HOWEVER THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE TRACK, SO UNTIL THE MODELS CAN AGREE, I WILL LEAVE IN A 20% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS FOR THE HIGH COUNTRY FOR THIS PERIOD. SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND SUNDAY LOOKS QUIET BEFORE ANOTHER SYSTEM MOVES INTO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY, GIVING OUR AREA ANOTHER CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION.
