WEATHER FORECAST 10/09/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 2:10 PM PDT OCT 09, 2007

AN UPPER LOW IS MOVING TOWARDS CAPE MENDOCINO AND IS EXPECTED TO PASS ON THROUGH LATE TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY. THE MAIN EFFECT TO US WILL BE COOLER TEMPERATURES AND WINDY CONDITIONS FOR BOTH THE HIGH COUNTRY AND THE OWENS VALLEY. I EXPECT AS MUCH AS 5 - 10 DEGREES COOLER TEMPS TOMORROW FROM TODAY. THE BEST CHANCE FOR PRECIPITATION WILL BE IN THE RENO AREA NORTH.

TONIGHT FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES AND BREEZY. LOW TEMPERATURES AROUND 36. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 -15 MPH GUSTING TO A MUCH AS 45.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY AND BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 75 AND LOW TEMPERATURES AROUND 35. WEST WIND 15 - 25 GUSTING TO 40.

TONIGHT FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND BREEZY. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 25 - 35. SOUTHWEST WIND 15 -25 GUSTING TO 40 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 58 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND THE UPPER 60S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 30 - 39. SOUTH WIND 5 -10 MPH.

TWO MORE SYSTEMS WILL AFFECT OUR AREA, ONE ON FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY AND THE OTHER ON TUESDAY. RIGHT NOW, FRIDAY'S SYSTEM LOOKS TO BE THE STRONGER OF THE TWO WITH RAIN POSSIBLE IN THE VALLEYS AND SNOW IN THE HIGH COUNTRY DOWN TO 8,000 FEET. MORE ON THIS LATER AS THE SYSTEM DEVELOPS.
