WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA

AN UNSEASONABLY COLD AND STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS NOW OVER POINT CONCEPTION AND I EXPECT IT TO START MOVING INLAND LATER TODAY INTO SATURDAY. THEREFORE THE BEST CHANCES FOR PRECIPITATION AND SNOW WILL START LATER THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH THE NIGHT. SATURDAY WILL ALSO SEE A GOOD CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION AS THE LOW MOVES ON THROUGH. A SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE PERIOD TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY WITH POSSIBLE SNOW FALL AMOUNTS UP TO 12 INCHES OVER THE CREST. BY SUNDAY, THINGS START TO CLEAR UP WITH GRADUALLY DRYING CONDITIONS IN THE VALLEYS AND A CONTINUED CHANCE OF SHOWER ACTIVITY IN THE HIGH COUNTRY.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: PARTLY CLOUDY BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY. CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS 30% TODAY AND 60% TONIGHT. THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY POSSIBLE LATER IN THE DAY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 60S AND LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 - 20 GUSTING TO 30 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 50% CHANCE OF SHOWERS DURING THE DAY DROPPING TO 20% IN THE EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 65. LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 30S. WINDS FROM THE SOUTHEAST @ 5 - 15 MPH.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS DURING THE DAY BECOMING SNOW SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. CHANCE OF SNOW DOWN TO 8,500 FEET. 80% CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 52 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND THE LOW 60S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 34 - 44. WINDS FROM THE SOUTHEAST @ 5 - 15 GUSTING TO 25.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH PERIODS OF SNOW SHOWERS. CHANCE OF SNOW DOWN 7,500 FEET. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION 80%. NEW SNOW ACCUMULATION UP TO 3 - 6 INCHES IN TOWN. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 46 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND THE MID 50S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 32 - 40. WINDS FROM THE SOUTHWEST @ 5 - 10 MPH GUSTING TO 25.

TEMPERATURES WILL GRADUALLY WARM ON MONDAY WITH DRY CONDITIONS BECOMING NEAR NORMAL BY TUESDAY. DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THURSDAY.
