WEATHER FORECAST 09/18/07 (IMPORTANT)

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

LAST UPDATE: 8:17 AM PDT SEP 18, 2007

WE WILL HAVE ANOTHER DAY OF NICE WEATHER TODAY, THEN STARTING TOMORROW THINGS ARE GOING TO CHANGE AS A STRONG, LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM DRIVES SOUTH FROM VANCOUVER ISLAND DOWN THE COAST OF CALIFORNIA. WINDS WILL INCREASE AHEAD OF THAT LOW ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, CREATING GUSTING CONDITIONS FOR BOTH THE HIGH COUNTRY AND THE VALLEYS. WINDS COULD REACH ADVISORY LEVELS LATE WEDNESDAY. TEMPS TODAY WILL BE ABOUT NORMAL THEN START DROPPING WEDNESDAY AS THE LOW MOVES THROUGH.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES AND BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 80S. LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 40S. WINDS FROM THE NORTHEAST @ 5 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO AS HIGH AS 22.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 80S. LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 40S. WINDS FROM THE SOUTH @ 5 - 10 INCREASING TO 15 - 25 IN THE AFTERNOON.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 64 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND THE MID 70S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 37 - 47. WINDS FROM THE SOUTHWEST @ 10 - 15 GUSTING TO 30.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: PARTLY CLOUDY AND WINDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS IN THE EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 54 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND THE MID 60S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 36 - 47. WINDS FROM THE SOUTHWEST @ 15 - 25 MPH GUSTING TO 35 IN TOWN AND 60 OVER THE CREST.

AS OF NOW, THE CENTER OF THAT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL TRACK WEST OF THE SIERRA CREST, REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF MOISTURE, BUT STILL BRINGING THE CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION TO THE VALLEYS AND LIGHT SNOW TO THE HIGH COUNTRY, WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY, THEN FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY. TEMPERATURES WILL DROP SIGNIFICANTLY AS THE LOW MOVES THROUGH AND WE WILL SEE SOME 10 -12 DEGREES BELOW SEPTEMBER NORMALS LATE WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY. FALL IS DEFINITELY HERE AND UNSETTLED WEATHER WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY, THEN THE LOW WILL EJECT INLAND ON SUNDAY FOR DRIER, WARMER WEATHER.
