WEATHER FORECAST 09/14/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 7:37 AM PDT SEP 14, 2007

WE CONTINUE TO BE IN A LOW PRESSURE DOMINATED WEATHER PATTERN. AN UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL MOVE ONSHORE OVER THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA OREGON BORDER EARLY TODAY WITH THE MAIN TROUGH MOVING INTO CENTRAL CALIFORNIA BY SUNDAY. THIS WILL KEEP THINGS DRY AND COOL THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES. BREEZY CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TODAY AND TOMORROW.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES AND BREEZY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 80S. LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 40S. AFTERNOON WINDS FROM THE SOUTHEAST @ 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 36 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY BLUE SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW TO MID 80S. LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 40S. AFTERNOON WINDS FROM THE NORTHEAST @ 10 - 20 WITH GUSTS TO 30.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: MOSTLY SUNNY AND WINDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 67 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND THE UPPER 70S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 39 - 49. WINDS FROM THE SOUTHWEST @ 10 - 15 WITH SOME GUSTS TO 30 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH AND THE MONO VALLEYS: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 66 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND THE MID 70S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 38 - 48. WINDS FROM THE WEST @ 5 - 10 MPH GUSTING TO 20.

THE NEXT TROUGH WILL DROP OUT OF THE GULF OF ALASKA ON SUNDAY NIGHT KEEPING TEMPERATURES ON THE COOL, DRY SIDE THROUGH TUESDAY. THEN ANOTHER TROUGH WILL MOVE INTO CALIFORNIA ON OR ABOUT WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY CONTINUING THE COOLING TREND. THIS TROUGH COULD BRING SHOWERS TO THE HIGH COUNTRY ON THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY. HOWEVER, THERE IS STILL QUITE A BIT OF UNCERTAINTY WITH THE MODELS ON THE LONGITUDINAL PLACEMENT OF THIS TROUGH AND ITS MOISTURE CONTENT. REGARDLESS, I WILL GO WITH EVEN COOLER WEATHER BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK, WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF A FEW INSTABILITY SHOWERS.
