WEATHER FORECAST 08/23/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 6:21 AM PDT AUG 23, 2007

A DRY WEST TO NORTHWEST FLOW WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT OUR AREA LEADING TO ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES TODAY AND TOMORROW. THERE WILL BE LITTLE CHANGE IN OUR WEATHER WITH CONTINUED CLEAR SKIES AND COOL NIGHTS IN STORE FOR US.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 100. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 54 - 63. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES AGAIN. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 100. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 56 - 62. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH WITH SOME GUSTS TO 25.

TODAY FOR THE MAMMOTH AREA: SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 80S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND LOW 90S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 45 - 55. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR THE MAMMOTH AREA: SUNNY SKIES. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 80S FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND MID 90S FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 44 - 53. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH.

A PIECE OF ENERGY FROM THE REMNANTS OF HURRICANE DEAN WILL ATTEMPT TO MOVE NORTH INTO OUR AREA SUNDAY AND INTO THE EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK. GIVEN OUR POOR THUNDERSTORM SEASON SO FAR, I DO NOT HAVE MUCH CONFIDENCE THAT THIS WILL BRING MUCH PRECIPITATION TO OUR AREA. HOWEVER, WE SHOULD SEE SOME TROPICAL MID AND HIGH LEVEL CLOUDS AND I WILL GO WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY OVER THE HIGH COUNTRY AND THE OWENS VALLEY ON SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY. OTHERWISE, ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES, DRY CONDITIONS AND CLEAR SKIES WILL PREVAIL THROUGH SATURDAY.
